Abstract: Aggression is one of the common negative behavior problems and is receiving a hot topic of the society or a long time. Many studies show that lots of factors can affect aggression. The personality is considered to be an important factor affecting aggression, but personality influence against the cognitive mechanism of study is less. Therefore, this study aims to explore the cognitive mechanism of violent attitude in predicting aggression and to explore the influence of violent attitude on aggression and the mediating role of hostile rumination. Based on general aggression model, this study investigated the relationship between hostile rumination and aggression among 115 college students using the Attitude to Violence Questionnaire and the Aggressive Behavior Questionnaire. The results showed that: 1) There was a significant positive correlation between hostile rumination and aggressive behavior in attitudes towards violence; 2) The results of this study supported the hypothesis that hostile rumination played a partial mediating role in the relationship between attitudes towards violence and aggressive behavior, and suggested that personality leads to aggressive behavior through influencing cognitive mechanisms, providing a reference for personality pathways.
