Abstract: Single crystalline brookite TiO2 was synthesized by hydrothermal method using titanium chloride, urea and sodium lactate as starting materials. X-ray powder diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer Emmett and Teller surface area analysis were utilized to characterize the as-synthesized sample. Photocatalytic activity of the as-synthesized sample was evaluated by photodegradation of methylene blue under ultraviolet light irradiation. Experimental results showed that brookite TiO2 nanosheets were ob-tained with the length of 60 - 80 nm and the width of 20 - 30 nm. The as-prepared single crystalline brookite TiO2 nanosheets showed high photocatalytic activity to methylene blue and the corres-ponding degradation rate of methylene blue (10 mg/L) reached to 94.5% after UV light illumination for 40 min, much higher than that of P25 investigated under the same conditions (86.7%).
