Fear of Missing out and Negative Emotional Symptoms in College Students: A Moderated Mediation Model of Problematic Smartphone Use and Psychological Flourishing
Abstract: The study selected 533 Chinese college students to exam the role of problematic smartphone use (PSU) and psychological flourishing between fear of missing out (FoMO) and negative emotional symptoms. The results indicated that (1) FoMO, PSU, and negative emotional symptoms were positively associated with each other and negatively associated with psychological flourishing; (2) PSU mediated the relationship between FoMO and negative emotional symptoms; (3) psychological flourishing moderated the relationship between PSU and negative emotional symptoms. This study concluded that FoMO can cause the negative emotional symptoms among Chinese college students, and it is also influenced by PSU and psychological flourishing.
